More than 368,000 voters from the province of Guantánamo must participate in the assembly process for nominating candidates for delegates to the municipal assemblies of People's Power, which began its meetings this Friday in the ten municipalities of the Cuban Upper East.
More than 2,200 meetings will be held in the 600 Guantanamo constituencies in which voters will make proposals and the one with the highest number of votes will be nominated, with the idea of electing the best and most capable representative of the people.
Oceanía Orihuela Bigñote, president of the Provincial Electoral Council, said that in each area a candidate must be nominated and the constituencies can have up to eight nomination areas.
She explained that the details of the plans have been made that will guarantee the successful development of these appointments, with the means of transportation, information and communications technology and other necessary resources. After the assemblies, biographies will be prepared with photos of the candidates, which will be published in central places in the communities.
As an assurance to the process, the electoral authorities are ready, as well as the supervisors, collaborators who are members of the auxiliary information processing groups, computer specialists and the support personnel of state bodies and other entities.
The nomination of candidates, which runs until November 12, will guarantee the quality of the electoral process that will take place on Sunday the 27th of that month, in its first round, and on December 4, the second, in the constituencies in which none of the candidates obtained more than 50 percent of the valid votes. The voters will exercise their free, direct and secret vote in each one of the colleges of the province.
Through Agreement 406 of August 25, 2022, the National Assembly of People's Power called for the elections, which are organized, directed and supervised by the National Electoral Council, in compliance with the Constitution and the Electoral Law of the Republic of Cuba.
