The exchange with the people, as well as the tour of sites of economic and social interest in Guantánamo, mark the agenda of the directors of the permanent work commissions of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), Parliament, during the visit that began this Thursday, to check the progress and difficulties in the main economic and social programs of the province.
The tour of the parliamentarians began in the main municipality and, in its course, they spoke with delegates, presidents of Popular Councils and permanent work commissions of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, and were interested in the impact of prioritized policies and programs of the country, the treatment of the approaches of the population and the attention to groups and communities in a situation of vulnerability.
Upon his arrival in Alto Oriente, Emilio Matos Mosqueda, governor, provided information on the epidemiological situation in the province, the progress of the food production program and the development plan until 2030. The visitors joined the festivities this October for the Day of Cuban Culture in the José Martí Park, in the city of Guaso.
On this first day, the Commission for Attention to Youth, Children and Women's Equality Rights, chaired by deputy Arelys Santana Bello, learned about the work experiences of the municipal Group for Prevention, Attention and Social Assistance, in especially the link with vulnerable groups, such as the elderly who live alone and mothers with three or more children.
For its part, the Local Organs Commission, in exchange with the Directorate of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power in Guantánamo, became interested in the operation of this structure. The importance of delegates being better prepared for the ordinary sessions of the Assembly, not improvising and making proactive interventions, was also underlined.
To feel in practice the results of the management of the new actors of the state and non-state sector, the Permanent Commission of Economic Affairs was in the mipyme Titán Sabor Criollo, of the Elpidio Valdés amusement park, where the production of hamburgers is guaranteed ( with a capacity of up to 10,000 daily) to various clients.
It is a young group, emerged in May 2022, now in the investment process that seeks to improve the cooling system, to increase performance. They have also linked up with a local farm for the constant delivery of raw materials.
Félix Martínez Suárez, deputy in charge of the Economic Affairs Commission, when exchanging with the Municipal Administration Council in Guantánamo about MSMEs and their importance for the territory, insisted that the contribution of Titán Criollo, as well as the more than 120 that operate in the capital city, must be well reflected in the development strategy of the municipality.
"What it is about is making clear all the potential that Guantánamo has to generate more income, reduce the budget deficit and recover economic-productive activity, which helps promote local development," said Martínez Suárez.
Mayor Rolando Cantillo explained that the territory takes advantage of advances in science and technology, the support of universities, the urban planning plan, and human resources for the expected social and infrastructural transformation of this land.
The parliamentary visit also verified the actions and impacts in the implementation of the Program for the Advancement of Women in the municipality, care for infertile couples and the strategy for the prevention of gender violence, aspects that are evaluated as a priority together with the Federation of Cuban Women.
As part of the tour of the province, the deputies were at the Dr. Agostinho Neto General Hospital, student centers, the Asdrúbal López Coffee Processing Company, wineries, gastronomy units, the provincial Bus Terminal and the Martí and Guantánamo hotels, to verify the quality of the services and their interweaving with the territorial development plans until 2030.
The verification of compliance with the agreements adopted by the National Assembly that correspond to the territory and attention to the measures to strengthen the economy, and the follow-up of the indications of the three government visits, are part of the parliamentarians' agenda.
