The municipality of Guantánamo, with 124 of the 199 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) that the province has, is at the forefront in guaranteeing new offers in terms of food production, textile manufacturing, recreation and other services to favor of the people and the socioeconomic development of the territory.
Since the process of creating MSMEs began in 2021, the Cuban Upper East has signed 314 applications on the platform of the Ministry of Economy and Planning, most of them from the capital city.
Of the 199 micro, small and medium-sized companies approved, 141 already carry out commercial operations, since they completed all the corresponding legal procedure, and currently contribute the social security tax to the worker, since they are exempt from taxes between 6 months and one year ( depending on the activity).
Guantanamo today has 103 newly created MSMEs, one state-owned (Guaily Ice Cream), 96 self-employed workers, who, having more than three workers, have gone into business management, and a recently established non-agricultural cooperative.
Most of the new players work in the provision of gastronomic services (cafeteria, restaurants, bars), maintenance and repair of vehicles; the construction, production and marketing of textiles... and even entities such as Mdaisson, achieve linkages with state corporations such as Cimex for the sale of their productions in freely convertible currency that generates more profits for their workers.
Although there are municipalities such as Guantánamo with a large number of MSMEs (124), there are others such as Maisí and Caimanera with one and three, respectively, however, given the acceptance and economic results of the new forms of management, the forecast is that new ones will emerge. companies, especially now that they will be able to import and export directly.
