The residents of the Guantánamo municipality paid tribute to the local martyrs at the monument erected to the young men who fell on August 4, 1957, as a result of the accidental explosion of a bomb factory belonging to the July 26 Movement.
With the presence of Rafael Pérez Fernández, member of the Central Committee of the Party and its first secretary in the province, as well as Emilio Mosqueda Matos, Governor, Henry Rodríguez Terrero, President of the Municipal Assembly and Idaliena Díaz Casamayor, Vice President of the Assembly, developed the traditional popular pilgrimage from the center of the city to the monument, which was preceded by the political-cultural act of remembrance of the mournful date established as the Day of the Guantanamo Martyrs.
Also attending the tribute were relatives of the martyrs of August 4 and representatives of the Union of Young Communists (UJC), the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution and political and social organizations. masses.
At the ceremony, the UJC 60th Anniversary Distinction was presented to the young Yoannia Columbié Guerra, from the People's Municipal Court, for her outstanding results in the tasks of dispensing justice.
When pronouncing the central words of this day, Aliuska Rodríguez Charlot, member of the Bureau of the Municipal Committee of the Party in Guantánamo, signified the courage and sense of duty of the revolutionaries who fell 65 years ago. Likewise, she reaffirmed the commitment of the new generations with the current battles in favor of economic efficiency and confrontation with the subversive campaigns against Cuba.
