Like every August, the city of Guantánamo invites troubadours from all over to pay artistic tribute to the Guantanamo martyrs of August 4, with the Day of the Political Song, the oldest event promoted by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).
The event has already started with the theoretical section that is prestigious with the presence of researchers such as Zenovio Hernández, Yosvel Hernández and Antonio López, the latter with the book Converted into Song, on the gender approach in trova.
This chapter is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Nueva Trova Movement, and to the gender approach in Cuban trova, which is why among the guests there are voices such as Yaíma Orozco, Yeni Turiño and Annalie López, as well as the renowned Marta Campos and Heidi Equalizer.
Also sharing the stage will be Leonardo García, Yatsell Rodríguez and his Café Pilongo (from Trovuntivitis, in Villa Clara), Santa Massiel and Motivos Personales (from Ciego de Ávila), Gabriel Almeida (from Uruguay), Yanco León, from Granma, and the group Controvando, from Las Tunas, the latter was in charge of the prelude concert on July 31 at the Zona de Arte cultural center.
The patio will be represented by Maikel Moral, Lorenzo Cisneros (Topete), Domingo del Guaso, Noel Nicot, Mario Zamora and Josué Oliva, defenders of the trova of yesterday and today.
The concerts of Eduardo Sosa, Augusto Blanca, Polito Ibáñez and Pancho Amat, invited once again to the Conference, will also be part of the attractions for these days, in which musical downloads are also planned in different cultural institutions of the city of Guaso .
Exhibitions, staging, poetry readings... will be integrated into the program that includes fixed spaces such as In what a quiet way and What my singing says, where troubadour music will be the central axis.
On the other hand, from Editorial La Luz, Norge Luis Labrada will bring volumes from that house, including texts by Guantanamo authors.
As is customary on the Day, on the 3rd the concert will take place in front of the obelisk of the Mártires on August 4, a tribute to Enrique Rodríguez, Fabio Rosell, Abelardo Cuza, Jesús Martín and Gustavo Fraga, who fell in connection with the explosion of a bomb factory of the July 26 Movement.
On August 4, tribute will be paid to Santiago composer Ñico Saquito at the closing of the Conference, an event that this year was the result of the alliances of the AHS with Artex, the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets, non-state actors in the economy such as the Goddess Bar and Downtown; the Union of Young Communists, Municipal Culture and the Juntarte project, all interested in the intelligent song returning to Guantánamo after the impasse caused by the pandemic.
